This was our entry to d3 Housing Tomorrow 2014 competition. In response to Calgary’s flooding in 2013, our entry envisioned a floating city lifted with helium balloons where people could travel to Calgary in their individual capsules and balloons from the suburbs. The mother ship would travel every day to Calgary city centre, dock and allow commuters to enter the City below and board the ship for business meetings. The time to commute will be an extension of people’s own living rooms and bedrooms. It could also serve as an emergency settlement to house displaced people during crises.
